Why Is No One Talking About A Garage Clean Out Before Fall?

Well, who wants to clean out their garage?
Isn't that what it's for?
Tossing $*@! to the side so I don't have to look at it until I need something and then I have to go in there and I don't want to go in there because I run the risk of breaking a hip or fracturing my pelvis 'cuz I ain't 20 anymore, all trying to get to, what was I looking for again?
Ok, yeah that makes sense. The garage could maybe use a spruce.

Why fall is the perfect time to clean out the garage.
First and foremost, it’s cooler out. I can hear the locals laughing as I play fast and loose with the word "cooler". I even have to chuckle at myself. But let’s face it, sometimes we are lucky enough to get some cool spells in September.
We’ll take what we can get around here.
At the end of the day, even slightly cooler will make the job less sweating than mid-summer
Second, why are you now parking your car in the driveway?
Because the lawnmower and all his little buddies have now taken up residence in your garage.
Summer clutter does tend to pile up, and by the time you realize it, it's already time for the kiddos to go back to school.

You’re just minding your business, trying to figure out how the garage absorbed all the beach gear; chairs, umbrella, canopy, coolers, wagon, toys, and before you know it, school supply shopping sneaks right up on you and the garage becomes an "I’ll do it later" kind of project.
Lastly, it makes space for your seasonal storage. Fall and winter sports can come along with lots of gear, heavy gear, and smelly gear. Where do you think all that's gonna go? Uh huh, right in the garage. Out of sight, out of mind.
You’re also gonna have to get to those holiday decorations eventually, 'cause you know that’s right around the corner too, and summer is barely over.
Now let’s talk about some common items at tend to clutter many garages.
Well, all those summer necessities we were just discussing. And besides the lawn equipment, you’re likely to find unused or broken tools, paint cans and chemicals that always pile up (you must call hazardous waste to dispose of these items), “spring cleaning“ items, and bulky items like odd furniture, exercise equipment, and what I like to call the “what is in this box and why didn’t I label it because now I’m scared to open" stack of boxes.
Why is the garage clean out the solution to all of your problems? Let me count the ways.
Problem: All the friggin' ass pollen all over your car nearly all year long.
Solution: You’ll be able to park your car in the garage. Bye bye pollen(ish).
Problem: You’ve stacked so much in your garage over the years that you can’t find anything and wouldn’t have a clue where to start to get to your holiday decorations or whatever you forgot what you were looking for.
Solution: Holiday decor, and seasonal items will be easier to find once you've decluttered and clearly labeled the bins.
Problem: Rodents and bugs love to hide in clutter when the temperatures drop. And even in our area, the temperatures do drop.
Solution: No unwanted pests.
Overall, you’ll have peace of mind, knowing that everything has a place and you can regain your sanity again.
But, you can’t get your sanity back until you overcome the overwhelm.
So don’t look at the big picture. Let’s tackle this job one step at a time.
Here are a few tips to beat the overwhelm:
Sort by categories: keep, trash/toss, recycle, donate
Set a timer. You don’t have to tackle this job all at once you don’t even have to tackle it half at once. Set yourself a timer for even 30 minutes, and when it goes off, it goes off and stop doing what you’re doing.
Use your vertical spaces wisely; use shelves, hooks, pegboard.
Label bins. Be sure to label all your bins once you’ve finished so that:
1. You’ll know what’s in the bins and they’ll no longer become “mystery “boxes.
2. Using the vertical space, you can easily find what you’re looking for.
If you tackle this job one step at a time, not only is it less overwhelming, but you’ll end up with a very organized garage that you can be very proud of.
Oh, and you can also now park your car in the garage.
If you’re able to do this, take a seat, kick off your shoes, have a drink, and congratulate yourself on a job well done.
Sometimes though, a junk clean out, can be more overwhelming for homeowners to take on by themselves.

This is when you want to call in the pros.
